Phi Phi Don
The larger of the two islands, Phi Phi Don has accommodation ranging from basic bungalows to more sophisticated resorts. Nightlife, shopping and restaurants are located generally around the centre of Tonsai, where the boats arrive and depart. (see map)

The smaller beaches directly north and south of Tonsai also have accommodation with the more upmarket resorts around the north east coast. Many have their own secluded beach, accessed by local "longtail" boats from Tonsai bay as there are no roads on the island.

Ton Sai Bay
1 km of white sand beach - the main area where the boats dock. Lots of accommodation, restaurants and places to meet. The beach area stretches back to Ao Lo Dalam, around the central area which forms the focus of the island. Touristy but fun. (map)

Haad Yao or ‘Long Beach’
Where the best snorkelling reefs are found. Local boats leave regularly from Ton Sai, or you can walk along the beach from Tonsai at low tide. One of the most popular southern beaches.

Ao Lo Dalam
Not so much action as Tonsai, although close enough if you want a night out. Some popular resorts are located here.

Phi Phi Leh (Phi Phi Ley)

There is no accommodation on Phi Phi Lei, as most of the island is composed of sheer cliffs and small lagoons with teeming fish. Trips leave every day for sightseeing and snorkelling, especially good for beginners as the water is warm, absolutely clear, and shallow.

Maya Bay
Made famous as a location for the Hollywood film "The Beach." Great for snorkelling, lots of coral gardens and colourful fish, although can get a little busy in high season!

Other Islands

Koh Yung (Mosquito Island)
North of Phi Phi Don has 2 small beaches and some well preserved offshore coral gardens. Good for snorkelling. The island gets it's name from the black clouds of mosquitoes at sunset at certain times of the year.

Koh Phai Island (Bamboo Island)
A tiny island 700 metres surrounded by coral reef, next to Koh Yoong. Small beaches on the north and east side and coral gardens off the south end.

Koh Pida Nai and Koh Pida Nok
Small islands south of Phi Phi Lei, visited mainly by divers for their underwater scenery. Ko Pida Nok is very good for both advanced and beginners with both shallow and deep dive sites. No accommodation.
